FAQ
Our most frequently asked questions
Yes. Our skincare line is rich in anti-inflammatory and botanical oils as well as soothing antioxidants, making it an excellent starting point for dry, itchy and sensitive skin.
We recommend that you perform a patch test before using a new skin care product for the first time. A small amount should be applied near the intended application site (the ideal place in this case is behind the ear). Listen to your skin: if you experience redness, irritation or discomfort during the 24 hours, wash the test site immediately.
You can order Waikura Manuka products via the Shop You can purchase it on this website or from selected retailers (there is currently no digital retailer search, but we can provide you with the details of retailers in your area upon request).
All of our products are formulated to be extremely gentle on children and adults, including those with sensitive skin, and safe for people prone to itchy skin conditions. However, as a matter of common sense, we always recommend doing a patch test at least 24 hours before using a new product for the first time. It is best to test on the inside of the upper arm and behind the ear; do not do the patch test on skin that is already irritated.
We recommend that you Body lotion one to two times daily in conjunction with the Body Wash to rid the skin of bacteria and relieve inflammation.
We recommend that you Face Cleanser Use 1 to 2 times daily before applying your day cream (coming soon).
Apply a few drops Manuka-Kanuka-Oil-Mix Apply to each spot with a cotton bud, allow to dry briefly and then apply one of our skincare creams (body lotion, day cream or hand cream) to moisturise the skin. It is very important to apply a cream directly to the skin where the Manuka- oil has been applied as all essential oils are highly concentrated and can potentially cause a reaction. We always recommend that you test any new product you apply to your skin first.
We are often asked this question. All our products are suitable for newborns over 6 months, but we recommend that you do a skin test before using a new skin care product for the first time to rule out allergies to natural ingredients.
Yes! Our skincare range is loved by many expectant and new mothers who don't have to worry about anything harming their little belly. (Or you).
We recommend consulting your GP if you are pregnant as every person and every pregnancy is different, even with certified organic products. The main things that expectant mothers need to be wary of in skincare are retinoids and retinol, BHAs (salicylic acid) and bergamot oil and some soy products (just because they can make hyperpigmentation worse). We are completely free of these things and all harmful substances. The best thing to do is always listen to your skin and do a little test to check if there is any unknown irritation.
None of our skin care products contain Manuka Honey. We use pure essential Manuka Oil, which is steam distilled from the leaves of the Manuka- plant. Here you can see how we grow and harvest our Manuka- plants on our farm in the Waikura Valley, New Zealand.
Yes! All of our products are made from natural ingredients, so there is no reason why your four-legged family members who suffer from dry, itchy skin should not be able to enjoy the beneficial effects of our products. However, we have never tested our products on animals, but we have many customers who have had great results. We recommend that you contact your veterinarian if you have any concerns.

About our products
Our products are made in New Zealand. The organic Manuka Oil is grown on our farms in the Waikura Valley from our Manuka-Plant won. Our Manuka Honey is harvested in the Waikura Valley, in collaboration with our happy New Zealand bees.
New Zealand’s leading Bio- certifier, Bio-Gro New Zealand, is our organic certifier and includes the USDA Organic and IFOAM organic certification programs. In fact, we are the first certified organic producers of Manuka Oil in the world.
We pride ourselves on our sustainable farming practices and our commitment to the environment. Our plants grow wild on our farm and we are fortunate to only be able to use about 51% of the plants available on our farm in any given year. This gives us many opportunities to maintain the health of our land.
New Zealand certifiers have the highest and most stringent standards in the world and do not allow GMOs (genetically modified organisms) or synthetic substances when certifying a product.
Yes! Our skincare range is 100% vegan, with the exception of our hand cream, where we have harnessed the natural antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties of beeswax to provide extra moisture protection for people who are sensitive to cracked hands and heels, or who have very dry hands due to having to wash their hands extensively at work.
Our Manuka honeys usually have a shelf life of around 2 years. The expiration date is printed on the top of the lid. Once opened, Manuka honey can easily be kept for 1 year.
On our Skin Care products you will find the standard post-opening symbol, which indicates the "lifespan" of a product after first opening and can be used as a guide. Our Skin Care range carries the "6M" symbol, which means that all products can be used for 6 months after opening.
All of our skin care products have an expiration date printed on the seal of each tube.
Yes, all our products are gluten free. The wheat in our professional solutions is gluten free because it is a derivative of wheat and does not contain gluten protein.
Of course! All of our Manuka products are packaged in recyclable bottles, tubes and honey containers. We also ship all of our products in recycled and recyclable packaging.
Every skin care product needs some form of preservative and at Waikura Manuka Skin Care we use safe, naturally occurring ingredients. We use it in our body lotion and day cream (coming soon). It is a naturally occurring compound commonly found in fruits, teas and essential oils such as jasmine, hyacinth and ylang-Ylang. It is a component of Geogard 221, a very mild preservative that is non-sensitising and non-irritating and is approved worldwide (even in Japan where approval is difficult to obtain).
